Helpful Tips

  • We ground hunt in the swamps and mountains. Tuck into the surroundings and limit your movement and sound. Our hunting style and the terrain does not allow for noisy, clunky tree stands!

  • We sit all day (mostly) so bring water and food in the field to survive the day. Use hard water bottles and zip lock bags to limit sound and scent. No crinkling of plastic water bottles or food wrappers.

  • Scent control is everything!

    • Days leading up to the hunt, wash all garments, even socks and base layers with Scent Killer detergent.

    • Days leading up to the hunt, and during your stay, wash with scentless soap and shampoo, and use scentless deodorant (We recommend Hunters Specialties Scent-A-Way products).

    • We also recommend hanging clothes outside each day or night before the hunt.

  • Before going in the field, spray down with scent eliminating field spray (We recommend Scent-A-Way Odorless).

  • Your preparedness is very important! Always bring 2 to 3 of everything. Examples:

    • The weather may not cooperate, but you will have extra sets of hunting clothes/boots to rotate in and out.

    • You may drop your weapon or there is an equipment malfunction. Having an extra rifle or bow can save your hunt; however, NBK Captain, Matt Zebley has enough gear to outfit 10-men, and he is kind enough to lend you his gear.

  • The rifle dear season can bring freezing temperatures! Items such as neck gators, wind stopping gear, hand muffs, toe warmers, and quality socks and hunting boots will go a long way to help outlast the cold.

  • Be alert and ready at all times. NO NAPPING! These whitetails will appear like ghosts!

  • Lastly, when that moment arrives to let 'er rip, remember to steady your breathing and squeeze the trigger or release the string on exhale; let it be a Surprise! The ability to slow down time and make a quick, decisive shot is an amazing feeling and a proud accomplishment.

The NBK team will always make sure our hunters are armed with the proper knowledge and advice to hunt longer and harder than anyone else!

- Best of Luck
